Liang Shi Min Luting Snow Map Volume

[Liang Shimin’s Lusting Snow Map]

The Lusting Snow Map volume, painted by Liang Shimin in the Northern Song Dynasty, silk, colored, 26.5cm in length and 145.6cm in width
This volume is Liang Shimin’s masterpiece from generation to generation. It depicts the sand and flat river in the severe winter season. The slopes of the carnation are covered with snow, and the dry reeds are looming in the dark background. In the quiet, the water of a lake has not been frozen, and there are two fish ī Ch ì) (some scholars have verified that it is red duck) snuggled together on the sandbar, and a pair of mandarin ducks swam in the cold waves and played in the water. This scene contrasts with the bleak scenery of dense snow and is full of poetry. It is a masterpiece of lake and sky scenery that combines landscape and flowers and birds. Just as Zhao Yan of the Yuan Dynasty wrote in the poem after the scroll: “The snow on the river is falling at dusk, and the cold sand is half falling at the tide outside. When you sleep in the picture, you can see that the soul of Xiaoxiang is far away from your eyes.” In the painting, the poem of Emperor Qianlong’s imperial title, “The mandarin ducks follow each other, not for the cold and different hearts”, directly points out the theme of this painting to express the pleasure
The whole painting is fine and smooth, the texturing method is simple, the ink is mainly used, and the ochre color is slightly applied. The use of large blank space reflects the characteristics of traditional Chinese painting that “everything without painting is a wonderful scene”, which just shows the snow scenery of lakes and mountains in the south of the Yangtze River.
