The Preface to the Five Songs of Qiting in Volume 50 of Dongpo Collection records the meeting between Su Shi and Chen Di when he was relegated to Huangzhou in May of the third year of Yuanfeng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1080). There are also 16 letters written by Su Shi to Chen Shao in the Dongpo Collection, which are all written in Huangzhou. The time written in the New Year Exhibition and Celebration Postscript (the first yuan) is the same as the time and reason recorded in the Preface to the Five Prefaces to Qiting “See you next year”, while Song Fuzao’s “Chronology of Dongpo” records that Dongpo was “Xinyou in Huangzhou in the fourth year of Yuanfeng, and went to Qiting on the 20th of the first month”. It can be inferred from the above records that the “New Year Exhibition and Celebration” should be written in the spring of the fourth year of Yuanfeng (1081) of the Northern Song Dynasty, when Su Shi was 44 years old.
