The former site of the British Embassy is located in the compound of the Ministry of Public Security at No. 14, East Chang’an Street. 英国使馆旧址位于东长安街14号公安部大院内，它是一组以清醇亲王府建筑为中心，四周布以中国传统和西洋古典风格的建筑群。英国驻“中华民国”大使馆旧址位于虎踞北路185号。1924—1925年英国在此建公使馆；1935年6月15号升为大使馆。

咸丰十年（1860年），英法为此不惜再次挑起侵略战争，占领了北京，并焚烧了圆明园，以示对清政府的报复，在这其中，英军首先抢占了满清皇族醇亲王奕譞的府邸作为使馆馆址，这也是英国在华的第一个大使馆的雏形。

英使馆保留了部分清式建筑，也新建了一些外中内洋或完全西式的建筑。如原醇王府的仪门、正殿、翼楼、后寝及配殿犹在，只是内装修已改。使馆大门仿罗马凯旋门风格，是一座两层三间的门楼。

现存旧址现为双门楼宾馆5号楼，为仿英式建筑风格。建筑面积1765.9平方米，仍保持了1946年时的原貌，底层由三个厅组成，第二层有10个客房，最底层为半地下室。走廊、廊柱、廊檐典雅气派，内部装饰细微舒适。为北京市近代优秀建筑之一。
