1906-1940 Old photo of Pudong, Shanghai The image of Huatong Wharf in Shanghai during the Republic of China, from the University of Bristol, England
Huatong Wharf is located at the present Dongchang Road ferry in Pudong. It was once a famous ferry on the east bank of the Pujiang River, called the Mud Ferry. Taikoo Company (now Taikoo Co., Ltd., English name Taikoo, was founded in Liverpool, England, in the early 19th century. At that time, it was only a small import and export company. Today, Taikoo Company is one of the main listed companies in Hong Kong) has warehouses, company stacks and Huatong warehouses on the riverside on both sides of the ferry. In 1882-89, Swire built the Huatong Wharf here to dock the inland and coastal ships of Swire Shipping Company that cross the Yangtze River
At that time, Huatong Wharf was 1450 feet long. The north side of the ferry was called Laotaigu Wharf, Taigu Pudong Wharf, and the south side was called Taigu Huatong Stack Wharf. Its scale was the first of all wharfs on the Huangpu River at that time. I have the honor to pass down some old photos of that time. I will arrange and publish them. Welcome to read them
