  • Description:
Zhang Yu was the representative of the sergeant of the Yuan Dynasty. He was born in a Confucian aristocratic family in the Southern Song Dynasty, but when he was young, he became a Taoist of the Maoshan Sect. Later, he became active in the literary world with his literary talent. He had deep friends with Zhao Mengfu, Yang Weizhen, Ni Zan and others successively. Sadula, a Hui poet, and Zhang Yanfu, a Mongolian Taoist, were also his friends. His calligraphy is very famous. In style, Zhao Mengfu followed the style of Jin and Tang dynasties. His handwriting is common in the inscriptions and postscripts of contemporary works. This picture is a rare large character cursive, with a great change of ink thickness, dryness and dampness. The structure and layout also appear unrestrained, revealing a Taoist spirit.
