The hollow stem tapers out to the foot and is straight rather than segmented like bamboo. Inside the walls are moulded in relief eight Daoist symbols contained within eight panels. These emblems include two coins, lingzhi, rhinoceros horn, castanets and two ingots, and in the centre a flower head. Painted over this in blue beneath the glaze is a flaming pearl in the centre and sketch scrolls around the rim. Outside a three-clawed dragon pursues a flaming pearl. The scales of the dragon are indicated by cross-hatching.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:It is much stiffer than the stem cup mentioned in the description and is covered with a duller blue-tinged glaze. Comparable examples survive in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and the Palace Museum, Beijing.
