Hanging scroll, calligraphy. Six phrases of three characters each, in Kang’s eccentric style of ‘xingshu’ (‘running script’). Referring to the failed Hundred Days’ Reform of 1898, Kang wrote that he was at peace and had no regrets. Written in ink on paper. Signature and two seals.

Comments:Kang Youwei was a proponent of democartic reform at the end of the Qing dynasty. His strong, eccentric calligraphy style inspired the calligraphers of the contemporary period, including Wang Nanming.
