“Xinyou” refers to the tenth year of the Republic of China (1921)
Roses were not commonly seen in ancient flower and bird paintings, while modern painters were more involved. Cheng Zhang, a person from the Republic of China, was the best at painting roses. This work by Chen Shizeng is quite interesting in sketching from life. In the picture, the slender branches of the rose, the shape of the flower is sketched casually, the posture is natural and vivid, and the colors are soft.
