[Chen Shizeng’s Chrysanthemum Painting Axis]
The Chrysanthemum Painting Axis, in modern times, is painted by Chen Shizeng in paper, with colors, 133.5 centimeters vertically and 32.6 centimeters horizontally
Self title: “Spiritual chrysanthemums grow on secluded cliffs, towering over cold winds. Spring dew does not change color, autumn frost does not change stripes. Master Zeng Hengke.” Seal: “Chen Hengke.”
The picture depicts a cliff with several clusters of chrysanthemums blooming in the crevices. Chen Shizeng used capital letters to draw chrysanthemums. On the one hand, he captured the rich interest of Wu Changshuo, and on the other hand, he learned a lot from the ancients, making them rich and unrestrained. The painting of the mountain stones in this picture is more distinctive than that of chrysanthemums, with a large and rough outline that is almost abstract in form, showcasing the painter’s unique artistic personality.
