[Chen Shizeng’s Autumn Flower Painting Axis]
The Autumn Flower Painting Axis, in modern times, is painted by Chen Shizeng, in paper, with colors, 177.8 centimeters vertically and 89.8 centimeters horizontally
The self title on the left side of the screen reads: “The deep and shallow flowers stand aloof from the frost in the evening, and you alone carry the wine to appreciate the fragrance of the crowd. The furnace hammer is used to cast three seals, weaving the seven days of his life. The moon in the sun of Renxu is filled with Chen Hengke.” The seals are stamped with “Chen Hengke” and “Chen Shizeng”
“Renxu” refers to the 11th year of the Republic of China (1922)
In the picture, autumn flowers such as okra, wild geese, chrysanthemums, etc. are painted. The composition is casual and the strokes are free and easy to use. Chen Shizeng’s freehand brushwork flowers seem to be painted horizontally and vertically, regardless of the organization. In fact, his paintings of flowers are rigorous in shape and structure, completely in line with the natural growth state of plants, which has something to do with his study of natural history in Japan.
