Qi Baishi Tiger Figure Axis

[Qi Baishi Tiger Painting Axis]

The “Tiger Painting” axis, modern times, Qi Baishi painting, paper version, color setting, vertical 68 cm, horizontal 33.6 cm
This picture breaks the traditional method of drawing a tiger as a positive image facing the audience, drawing only the tiger’s back. However, through the twisting figure of the tiger’s back, one can still feel the robust and strong body. Although the autumn grass on both sides of the tiger’s body sways, one can still feel its king style that is not affected by the surrounding environment and is only respected by oneself< Mr. Qi Baishi's consistent artistic proposition is to stand out and paint his own true feelings. For this reason, he carved a seal of "I made my own painting" to show that in his artistic creation, he not only imitated the ancients and imitated nature, but also focused on innovation, seeking change, and shaping his own style. He once exhorted his disciples to say, "Those who learn from me live, and those who resemble me die." He asked them to be similar in spirit and form, instead of simply following the teachings of their masters, otherwise their art would have no vitality. Mr. Qi Baishi is most famous for painting fruits and vegetables, flowers, characters, and fish, shrimp, and crabs. His paintings of tigers are extremely rare. This painting shows Mr. Qi Baishi's other style beyond his conventional paintings, and interprets his innovative philosophy in a unique way of expression
