Parrot Painting Axis, modern and contemporary, painted by Chen Shizeng and Wang Yun, paper based, colored, 92.7 cm vertically and 33.5 cm horizontally
On the right side of the painting, Shi Zeng wrote, “In the mid spring of Renxu, Meng Bai, Wang Yun, and Shi Zeng, Chen Hengke collaborated with Li’s Shuangtang Hall.” With the seal of “Chen Shi Zeng”. The picture also features Yao Hua filling in words and writing
“Renxu” refers to the 11th year of the Republic of China (1922)
The picture depicts two tiger skin parrots standing on a flower branch, one on the front and one on the side. The works are elegantly colored and bright and beautiful. From the perspective of brushwork, flowers look like a master’s brush, while the parrot should be painted by Wang Yun. Wang Yun’s flower and bird painting style is similar to Hua Yan’s small freehand brushwork style, with a lively brush and a handsome style, emphasizing color and realism. The painting of the parrot in this drawing is very exquisite, with accurate structure and beautiful shape. However, the flowers of Shizeng are also different from the usual bold and unrestrained freehand brushwork, with rigorous method and elegant and clear expression.
