[Chen Shizeng’s Ink Lotus Painting Axis]
The Ink Lotus Painting Axis, in modern times, was painted by Chen Shizeng and Zhang Daqian, in paper and ink, 178.5 centimeters vertically and 47.4 centimeters horizontally
The title of Zhang Daqian on the right side of the screen reads, “The wind in the Water Hall brings a faint fragrance. Master Zeng painted the lotus, and Da Qian filled the water and grass.” The seal is “Zhang Daqian” and “Da Fengtang”
In the picture, Chen Shizeng’s brushwork on the lotus is extensive and full of clumsy charm, while Zhang Daqian’s brushwork on the water grass is smart and unrestrained, with a heroic spirit. The style of the two paintings is significantly different, but they complement each other and cooperate with each other quite well. The picture highlights the noble and clean character of the lotus flowers emerging from the mud without staining, making it seem as if they are floating with a faint fragrance.
