Self question: “Qu Yuan. Write with a stone.” Seal with a “Private Seal with a Stone” in white, and another seal with a “Favorable Work with a Stone” in Zhu< Since the 1940s, Fu Baoshi has been creating statues for Qu Yuan. The reason for this is that he always believed in Qu Yuan's boundless loyalty to the country, his noble character, and his great achievements in literature; During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he and his old friend Guo Moruo used the great image of Qu Yuan to promote patriotism, thereby arousing the fighting emotions of the people and saving the nation from crisis. (In 1942, Guo Moruo wrote a five-act drama "Qu Yuan" in Chongqing. He pointed out, "I have revived the anger of this era in the era of Qu Yuan. In other words, I have borrowed Qu Yuan's era to symbolize our current era." He expressed his intention to express his righteous indignation by lashing the darkness of reality through Qu Yuan's patriotic sentiments.)
The image of Qu Yuan on the picture is as depicted in the five lines of his “Fisherman” poem: “Qu Yuan was already free, swimming in the river pool, singing along the banks of the river, haggard in color and haggard in appearance.” Qu Yuan stood by the river bank, his originally thin face shrouded in sadness, anger, and depression, his eyes slightly closed, and he fell into contemplation. “The monarch is fatuous and incompetent, the treacherous minister is in power, and he has framed loyalty and good will. Neighbouring countries have been coveting him for a long time. For a moment, it is difficult to control their thoughts.”. However, in the face of various cruel realities, he did not lose his wits and feel at a loss. He still displayed the heroic spirit of “everyone in the world is turbid and I am alone, everyone is drunk and I am awake alone” and the noble spirit of unswerving determination, preferring death to surrender
The painter vividly displayed Qu Yuan’s loyal patriotism, his concern for the suffering of the common people, and his extraordinary and refined poetic demeanor in front of the audience, reflecting the best state of shaping and vivid Chinese figure painting, which can be called the “masterpiece” of his historical figure paintings
