The “Wind Willows and Swallows Painting” axis, in the ninth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1883), was painted by Ren Yi in silk, with colors, 152.5 centimeters vertically and 40 centimeters horizontally
This picture is a sketch depicting a group of swallows playing in the spring breeze, and it is also a representative work of Ren Yi’s successful use of the technique of expressing “wind” with reality and emptiness. The ethereal and abstract wind is represented both concretely and vividly through the dynamic movements of small swallows fluttering and fluttering, as well as the fluttering and flamboyant shapes of willow leaves. This not only gives the “wind” a visual image, but also highlights the author’s creative theme of “light willows love the wind”. From conception to ink, it reflects the author’s exquisite artistic level in the mature period of painting creation
The inscription on this page reads: “On the first month of the Spring Festival in the Guiwei period, the mountain is overcast, and I am the uncle of the year.” With the seal of “Yi Seal”, the white seal is affixed. Guiwei “was in the ninth year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1883), when Ren Yi was 44 years old.
