On the top right of the picture, there is a inscription saying: “The photo of Duke Wenyi of Zeng Zu. My great-grandson Eli would like to know.” It is known that this picture is the photo of the great-grandfather Nayancheng of Eli. Nayancheng (1763-1833), Zhang Jia, was born in Manchu Zhengbai Banner with the name Shaojiu and Yitang. In the fifty-fourth year of Qianlong’s reign (1789), Jinshi was elected as a scholar, and he was awarded the title of editor. During his tenure in this post, due to his work in poetry and calligraphy, he had to participate in the compilation of the “Shiqu Treasure Collection” and the “Secret Palace Pearl Forest” together with nine people, including Wang Jie, the master of the study. Later, he served as Minister of the Ministry of Industry, Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Governor of Zhili. He died in the 13th year of Daoguang’s reign (1833) and was awarded the title of Shang Shu with the posthumous title of “Wen Yi”
In the picture, Nayancheng is dressed in casual clothes, holding his knees with both hands, and sitting on the stone. Her beautiful face, staring forward, and firm expression should be her image during her tenure. The figure’s face is finely dyed, convex and concave, and the clothing pattern is refined and accurate, reflecting the basic characteristics of the portrait painting at that time. The picture left a portrait of the late Qing Dynasty famous minister in his twilight years, which has high historical value
