The whole vessel is carved from a whole piece of dark blue lapis lazuli, which is naturally shaped and attached with a wooden base. On both sides, there are relief pictures of Wansong Mountain, pavilions and pavilions, deep courtyards, lush mountains and forests, and gurgling water. The poems made by Emperor Qianlong are inscribed in the shade on both sides, and the poem “Ten Thousand Pine Mountains Stopping” on the other side: “Ten Thousand Pine Mountains stop at the peak of the peak, and the spring is clear, and the sky is green and overcast. There are no many rooms and flowers on the side of the palace, and people come from near and far to offer.” On the other side is the poem “Ten Thousand Pine Mountains Small Mound”: “Many mountains are washed, and one bridge is alone in the sky. If you want to have spiritual protection, please look at the picture and picture. The side of the Buddhist Palace in the Qing Dynasty is cool at noon. Small Mound goes on the journey, and it has already paid off.” The inscription on this side is filled with gold. Both poems were improvised by Emperor Qianlong when he rested at Wansong Mountain
Lapis lazuli is a single mineral silicate jade with a Mohs hardness of 5-6. Generally, there are navy blue, purple blue and dark blue. Because of the fine pyrite, there will be golden stars on the blue base, which is very beautiful. Lapis lazuli has long been a kind of carving material, and small animals with lapis lazuli have been unearthed in the tombs of the Han Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, lapis lazuli was highly valued by emperors because of its “color like the sky”, also known as “emperor’s cyan” or “treasure’s cyan”, and became an important jade carving material when worshipping the sky. The “Qing Huidian Pictorial Examination” contains: “The emperor’s beads are miscellaneous decorations; only the altar of heaven uses lapis lazuli, the altar of the earth uses topaz, the altar of the sun uses coral, and the altar of the moon uses white jade.” That is to borrow jade to symbolize the sky, the earth, the sun, and the moon, of which the sky is the highest, so lapis lazuli. In addition, lapis lazuli is also one of the important mineral pigments. the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, Gansu Tianshui Maijishan Grottoes murals, painted sculptures, etc. all use lapis lazuli as a large number of pigments. Countries producing lapis lazuli in the world include Afghanistan, Russia, Chile, Canada and other countries. There is no report on the production of lapis lazuli mineral in China. The lapis lazuli used in ancient China is basically imported from Afghanistan
