Rhinoceros horn carved flower and wood figure Cha cup

[Rhinoceros horn carved flower and wood figure tenon cup]

Rhinoceros horn carved tenon cup, at the end of the Ming Dynasty, is 8 cm in height, 16.8 cm in length and 8.2 cm in width
This device is carved from Asian rhinoceros horn. The tenon is in the shape of chestnut steamed at the beginning and brown at the end. The author uses techniques such as round carving and relief to cut the rhinoceros horn obliquely and hollowed out the inside. The tenon cup is shaped as a dead tree boat with numerous galls. The bow branches of the boat are perforated and flow at the end of the dead tree boat. An old man with a long beard sat in the crotch with his back leaning against a dead branch, wearing a long shirt, wearing a plain towel, his right hand on his knee, his left hand twirling his beard, smiling, and looking left, with a very peaceful attitude. The dead branch on the left side of the figure is hung with a fine brush, which seems to swing with the wind. The water waves under the tenon turn into swirls, like sailing in a torrent. The water wave patterns are clearly layered, fine and fine, and the carving is fine. This theme is derived from the allusion of Zhang Qian looking for the source of the river. The Cha cup is unique in shape, fluent in knife use, fine in polishing, and simple and smooth in carving. Through the author’s exquisite portrayal, it shows the old man who is sailing in dangerous waters, but has a clear mind and is like walking in a leisurely manner. It is a treasure in rhinoceros horn carving.
