[Yukan’s rhinoceros horn carving grape bird pattern cup]
Yukan’s rhinoceros horn carving grape bird pattern cup, in the late Ming Dynasty, 5.7 cm high, 13.5 caliber × 6.8 cm
The cup is made of the back horn of the African rhinoceros horn. The horniness is solid and fine, and the color is like honey. It is light brown and translucent. Two vines with tangled branches are carved on the natural convex and concave part of the rhinoceros horn gutter as the handle, the branches are bent and the leaves are spread, and the fruit is round and large. On the left and right sides of the cup handle, the female and male birds are carrying several chicks. The chicks either seek food, hide under the female wings, or jump on the female’s back to play. The inner wall of the cup uses the natural hillock of the rhinoceros horn to carve a hanging rock. The vines are coiled and hanging under the rock wall, with leaves and fruits interspersed. On the edge of the flat bottom, there is a small square seal in Yangwen “Youkan” seal character, which is small and almost indistinguishable. This cup is beautifully decorated and has exquisite carving techniques. It shows a picture of the golden pheasant godson with profound implications. It makes people look at it with endless charm and can’t put it down. It is the best of the rhinoceros horn carved by You Kan.
