There is a unique song in this painting: “Song Yin falls in Jiangxi, and the willow trees are reflected on the green dyke. The horses and carriages are not noisy and clean, and the small buildings are long listening to the singing of warblers. Shen Shichong writes in the winter of the Geng Shen.” After that, “Shen Shichong” and “Zi Ju” are stamped. “Gengshen” is the forty-eighth year (1620) of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. There are two sides of this picture, namely, the seal of the Qing government. This picture depicts the scene of a scholar looking out from a high building at the field where the farmer drives a plow and hoes in the early spring. The works of Songjiang School painters are mostly imitations and imitations of antiquity, and the works reflecting real life, especially the interests of farmers, are very rare. In addition, the author gives full play to the advantages of his landscape painters in the background portrayal. The uneven brush strokes of Song Xiu, the coloring with light ochre as the key tone, and the sparse and open layout all properly set off the warm and cheerful mood, which can be called one of the representative works of Shen Shichong’s personal style in the middle age.
