This painting: “The painting of Li Di at the age of Ding Si in Qingyuan.” “Ding Si in Qingyuan” is the third year of Qing Yuan (1197) of Song Ningzong. The seal was sealed by Zhang Zeyin in the Song Dynasty, “Xiang Yuanbian seal” in the Ming Dynasty, “ink forest secret play”, “ink forest appreciation seal”, “god”, “product”, and so on. There are two seals on the edge of the seal of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, “the treasure of the Supreme Emperor” and “the treasure of the eighth anniversary of the eighth expedition”
The picture shows two chicks lying on one side and standing on the other side, facing the same direction, holding their breath, as if they were about to run away when they heard their mother’s call for food. The picture depicts vividly the chick’s crying for feeding, fully reflecting the warm farmhouse sentiment. The painter uses black, white, yellow and other fine lines to closely depict the texture of the chicken’s plush, vividly depict the chick’s young and lovely vivid look, reflecting the profound painting skills. This picture was painted by Li Di in his later years. The composition is extremely simple, without any background contrast, but it captures the look of the chick in the moment of looking back, which is touching
Compared with the painting of the Maple Eagle and the Golden Rooster created by the artist the previous year, this painting is totally different in aesthetic taste. The former shows the gentle mood of gentle breeze and gentle rain, while the latter shows the harsh atmosphere of making public the mutual harm of life in nature, which shows Li Di’s ability to express various themes
After the people entered the Tibetan and Qing dynasties, the Emperor Qianlong, who was elegant in painting and calligraphy, not only appreciated his artistic attainments, but also associated with the policy of governing the country with diligence and love for the people from the perspective of the emperor. He copied this work in the fifty-third year of Qianlong’s reign (1788), and made several copies of it, and gave it to the governors of the provinces. He hoped that these local parents would regard the people in the areas under their jurisdiction as the chicks in the picture, and when dealing with government affairs, they should “be solid managers, do not forget the crying of the small people”
There is a five-character poem written by the Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty on the opposite page: “The two young birds are like looking up, but their mother is what they are. They can’t understand how to peck at the field, but who is pity for the hungry. The picture is a straight line, touching the eyes and thinking deeply. The people in the disaster area are waiting to be fed, and they are careful to care about the group and the company.” There are two seals: “Han Yingzuihua” and “many things are happy”
