Fragment of Buddha sitting statue

[Fragments of Bodhisattva’s sitting statue]

Fragments of Bodhisattva’s sitting statue, Tang Dynasty, paper-based, colored, 5.5 cm vertically and 22.5 cm horizontally. Dunhuang paintings
The picture is the lower part of a sitting statue of a Bodhisattva. The bodhisattva sat with folded arms, wearing a scarlet cassock and wearing a wreath. From the left corner of the statue, it can be seen that the seat is a lotus seat with a body light behind the bodhisattva. The lines of the picture are delicately drawn, with heavy colors and layers of halo, showing a rich and stable quality. This is a common painting method in Dunhuang paintings in the 9th century. Because these paintings have been closed in the Sutra Cave for a long time, they are as bright as new
The postscript: “The remains of the painted Buddha of the Tang Dynasty were found in the Dunhuang Thousand Buddhas Cave, which is in the old collection of the Li Muzhai’s Jiajia Hall. The paintings of the Tang Dynasty in Dunhuang are rare. This is a short section of the Buddha’s image, which can be seen with the pen and color, and even can be seen with the treasure. How can you know your ugly Mid-Autumn Festival?” The following seal is printed on two sides: “He Sui” in the Zhu text and “Xu Pu’s calligraphy and painting” in the Bai text
The fragments of this painting were donated by Mr. He Sui to the Palace Museum in 1955. According to the inscription and postscript of He Sui, it was once collected by Li Shengduo’s Jiaguan.
