[Liu Sanniang and others made the stone double Amitabha statue]
Liu Sanniang and others made the stone double Amitabha statue in the tenth year of the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty (722), with a residual height of 36 cm
The Buddha’s head has been lost. Amitabha wears a monk’s branch inside, a chest lace, and a cassock outside. He sits with his hands folded and folded. His hands are raised, and his knees are lowered. His body is strong, plump, and full. The line-cut clothing has been replaced by round sculpture. The rectangular summitsu is composed of two hexagonal prisms at the waist. A lotus flower is carved in the center of the front of the column, and there are six Luxi bearers at the four corners and in the middle. The upper part of the seat is a lotus, and the lower part is plain. The inscription on the front is “Liu Sanniang, Mei Wuniang, and sister-in-law Guo, who died on the 23rd of the first month of the tenth year of the Kaiyuan era, for the sake of their parents and seven generations of the first death, respectfully made the jade double body Mixiang District 1 (body), and the whole family provided for the Buddha.”
A total of 10 statues of the Tang Dynasty dating from 1953-54 in Quyang, Hebei Province, were carved on the front of the statue seat, which is because the base of the statue before the Tang Dynasty was mainly rectangular (square), The front statues are mostly carved with Dharmapalas, lions, and reincarnated children holding the Boshan stove, etc. The vows will naturally recede to both sides and the back. In the Tang Dynasty, the main trend of the statue was to girdle Xumizuo. The shape of Xumizuo itself made it lose the space for carving Dharma protectors. Moving the vow to the front became the natural choice of craftsmen at that time.
