Maitreya Bodhisattva wears a trefoil crown, is made of silk, and is wearing a topless corset. His shoulders are covered with silk, and he hangs down to the seat. He has ornaments under his neck. His left hand gives a vow seal, and his right hand holds a lotus bud, and his legs intersect. He sits on the lotus seat, and there are two emperors who release the sky. Plain backlight. The bottom is a plain rectangular base. The pedestal is engraved with a vow: “On May 1, the second year of Tianbao, Zhang Shuangwo, a female Buddhist disciple of the Qing Dynasty, made the first area of the lower life statue of Maitreya for the late husband Yang Zao, and raised it to a height of eight feet, wishing that the late husband would give birth to his dead husband, get wonderful and clean fruits, and live happily with his family members.”
Maitreya is one of the main gods in Buddhist statues, and most of them appear in large grottoes such as the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, Yungang Grottoes, Longmen Grottoes in the form of Jiaojiao Buddha costumes, Most of them were in the Northern Wei Dynasty. However, in the area of Dingzhou, Hebei Province, there were few in the Northern Wei Dynasty, and it was not until the Northern Qi Dynasty that it became one of the main subjects of statues, reflecting the uniqueness of Maitreya belief in Dingzhou, Hebei Province. The statue was unearthed at the site of Xiude Temple in Quyang, Hebei Province from 1953 to 1954.
