[Flat bottle with lead brown glaze printed figure pattern]

Flat bottle with lead brown glaze printed figure pattern, North Dynasty, 12.2 cm high, 3.1 cm caliber, 4.9 cm foot diameter
The bottle is oblate, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom, slightly like apricot stone. Open, short neck, false circle foot. Brown green low temperature lead glaze is applied throughout, and the glaze layer is bright. A round nose button is symmetrically placed on the shoulder for carrying with ropes. There is a circumferential bead pattern on the connecting part of neck and shoulder. Both sides of the abdomen are stamped with a group of five Huteng music and dance patterns. One person in the center is dancing on the lotus seat, the other two on the right are playing the flute and the other is clapping. Two people on the left, one playing the lute and the other playing the cymbal with both hands. The five people all had deep eyes and high noses. They wore narrow sleeved long shirts, waist ties and boots, which was the image of people in the Western Regions at that time
During the Northern Dynasty, China had a lot of contacts with Central Asia and other countries in the Western Regions, and the relationship was relatively close. Therefore, some decorative patterns of the Western Regions, such as bead patterns and honeysuckle patterns, appeared on porcelain and became a common decorative pattern. The figures of the Western Regions also became decorative subjects of porcelain, which all reflected the historical background of the great integration of the cultures of the Central Plains and the Western Regions. The vivid and lifelike figure of this bottle provides valuable material materials for the study of Chinese music and dance at that time
The shape and decoration of this brown and green glazed flat bottle with figure patterns are similar to those of several yellow glazed flat bottles with figure patterns unearthed from the tomb of Fan Ze, the general of the Northern Qi cavalry in Honghetun, Anyang, Henan Province, in 1971. In addition, this product was also unearthed at the Northern Dynasty site of Xingyao, Hebei
The brown-green glaze on the bottle is a low-temperature glaze fired in an oxidizing atmosphere with an appropriate amount of iron oxide as the colorant and lead oxide as the flux, so it is also called lead brown-green glaze.
