This group of photos was taken in Hankou during the Wuchang Uprising in 1911 by Ding Lemei
Edwin· Dingle (1881~1972) was a British psychologist, writer and philosopher. Originally named Edwin John Dingle, he was born in Cornwall, England, on April 6, 1881
He came to China on March 4, 1909 and gave himself the Chinese name Ding Lemei. During the Wuchang Uprising, as a special correspondent of the Shanghai English Continental News, he was engaged in field interviews. He was the first Western journalist to interview Li Yuanhong, the new governor of Wuchang, at the beginning of the 1911 Revolution
He returned to England in 1917 and compiled his experience in China into a book for publication. Ding Lemei has deep feelings and understanding of China, and pays special attention to introducing the situation of China to the western world, including Walking Through China, My Life in Tibet, and Witness of the 1911 Revolution
