Zigong is one of the 23 cities that were first established in the Republic of China. In history, Zigong was one of the richest cities in China because of its well salt production. It was also the city with the highest amount of donations during the Anti Japanese War. Zigong is the first place in the world to develop and utilize natural gas, one of the earliest provincial cities and an important industrial town in Sichuan

自贡，民国最早建制的二十三个市之一，历史上自贡因产井盐而富商云集，中国最富庶的城市之一，也是抗日战争中捐款额度全国最高的城市。自贡是世界上最早开发利用天然气的地方，川内最早的省辖市之一和工业重镇。
