在吉林,早在光绪二十四年(1898年)就创办了“吉林永衡官帖局”,之后又设立了“吉林永衡官钱局”,到宣统元年(1909年)吉林督抚陈昭常将官帖、官钱两局合并为一,改名为“吉林永衡官银钱号”。其资金为大洋一千万元,每年所获纯益,数百万元。到民国二十年(1931年)“九·一八”事变以后关闭。这个官办买卖从发行地方纸币开始,后又办理银行性质的业务,逐渐成为吉林全省地方银行。

吉林永衡官银钱号地点在吉林城西大街(今吉林市船营区西大街19号)中间,据《永吉县志》载:“钱号占地千四百二十六方尺,房舍二百二十七间,行政营业兑换所均在内”。

吉林永衡官银钱号所办理业务超过一般银行业务。它还经营附属企业,如永衡茂(钱庄及粮栈)、永衡长(同上)、永衡合(同上)、永衡裕(同上)、永衡昌(当铺)、永衡泰(粮栈及当铺)、永衡印书局(印刷业)、吉林电灯厂(以上在吉林)等。
