This group of photos was taken by Robert Middleot, a soil scientist and a professor of geography at Johns Hopkins University in the United States; Larimore· Robert Larimore Pendleton (1890-1957)
From 1931 to 1933, Pendleton visited China, covering Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong, Macao, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Beijing, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Hebei and other provinces and cities today. He took more than 1100 stereoscopic photos, recording the local customs of China during the Republic of China
Pendleton arrived in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province after taking photos of some northern areas in 1931, inspected and photographed Nanjing and its surrounding areas, and left more than 120 photos
