The earliest female college students in China – old photos of Jinling Women’s University during the Republic of China
In 1911, the American Presbyterian Church, the American Israeli American Church, the Baptist Church and other organizations proposed to establish a women’s university in the Yangtze River basin. In 1913, Jinling Women’s University was set up in Xiuhua Lane, southeast of Mochou Lake, Nanjing. In 1915, the school officially opened. The first president, Laurence Thurston.
