The tragic scene of Shandong’s great famine reappeared in the old photos of Jinan in 1927

In the great famine in Shandong since 1927, a large number of victims from all over Shandong left their homes and fled to Jinan, Qingdao and other big cities to find a way to survive. At that time, the pastors of Shandong Qilu University took a number of photos of refugees who fled to the vicinity of Qilu University in Jinan in 1927 and 1928. Now they are collected in the Library of the University of Southern California and the Library of Congress of the United States. These photos are of great reference value for the reproduction and research of that history, and also highlight the preciousness of these photos

1927年到1930年，山东连续发生极为严重的灾荒。西部受灾的有56个县，占全省面积的60%；灾民2086万，占全省人口50%。

时间进入1927年后，山东的天灾异常加重，其表现有：一是诸灾并起，水旱蝗接踵而至；二是持续时间长，自1927年起，迄1930年止，无一年不是重灾；三是灾情严重，有人估计，到1928年4月，山东最困苦之灾民，总计逾千万以上，约占全省人数四分之一，非赈济不能活者有二三百万之众。

1927年开始的这次山东大灾荒中，大量的山东各地灾民背井离乡逃荒到济南、青岛等大城市以寻求活路。当时山东齐鲁大学的牧师曾拍摄了一批1927年、1928年间逃荒到济南齐鲁大学附近的难民生活的照片，现在收藏于美国南加州大学图书馆和美国国会图书馆，这批照片对于再现、研究那段历史具有极高的参考价值，也凸显出这些照片的珍贵程度。

本组照片即选取于此，主要反映的是当时山东大饥荒时期，逃难的人们凄凉生活状态及救济委员会的一些救济活动。

可以看出在当年那个生活条件下，遇到灾难的人们是多么的艰辛凄惨。
