Tongliang District is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River; The western part of Chongqing, the metropolitan area of Chongqing, and the new urban development zone are the hometown of Qiu Shaoyun, a special hero of the Chinese People’s Volunteers, and the birthplace of the Tongliang Dragon Lantern

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Tongliang was the territory of Pakistan. In 329 B.C., King Wei of Chu destroyed Ba and granted his concubines the title of“” in the south of Pujiang River (today’s Hechuan and Tongliang); Tongliang Hou”. In the Tang Dynasty, the fourth year of Chang’an in the Wu and Zhou Dynasties (704), Chen Jingyi, the governor of Hezhou, gathered together overseas Chinese from Dazuchuan (now Laixi River), cut stones and mirrors, and set up copper beams under Hezhou. During the Republic of China, Tongliang belonged to Sichuan Province. Until April 1983, Tongliang belonged to Chongqing again
