This is a group of photos taken at the gate of Lanzhou City Wall in 1920s by Father Di Huachun. Of course, these city walls and gates no longer exist. Let’s use this group of old photos to remember the past history and memories
In the third year of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty (583), Jincheng Prefecture was changed into Lanzhou and the general administration office was set up. Because there is Gaolan Mountain in the south of the city, it is named Lanzhou. Lanzhou was built many times before the Ming Dynasty. By the early Ming Dynasty, Lanzhou had built an inner city. During the reign of Xuande in the Ming Dynasty (1426 AD— 1435 AD), the Outer City was built with an irregular circumference of 18 li and 120 paces. Since then, Lanzhou City has begun to take shape. In the Qing Dynasty, the city gates and walls were wrapped in bricks. In the Republic of China, the four gates of the inner city were called the East West North South Gate respectively
