In the late Qing Dynasty, the Xishan area was the garrison of the Eight Banners of the Qing Dynasty, which roughly covered 16 villages, including Lugou Bridge, Sanjiadian, Changxindian, Wulituo, Niujiaoling, Shangxiazhuang, Anjiatan, Bajiao Village, Beixindian, Yamenkou, brick and tile kilns, Gucheng Village, Moshikou, Liuli Bureau, Wangpingkou, Mentougou (recorded in the archives of 1843 (the 23rd year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty))

清朝健锐营的团城演武厅。晚清时期，演武厅始终作为军事设施存在。民国初期，这里成为清华大学（农作物）实验场。

清朝健锐营（飞虎健锐云梯营、健锐云梯营、西山健锐营、香山健锐营）是一支性质特殊八旗禁卫军部队，但因清朝的八旗制度，健锐营实施世袭制度，这使由精锐之师（创建初期）组成的部队，逐渐失去战斗力（最初的）而日趋平庸。
