Zhang Hong (after 1577~1668), with the word Jundu, was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and was an industrial landscape. As far as the extant paintings are concerned, he is an original painter in the late Ming Dynasty, who can draw inspiration from the real scene. This scroll was painted in the 41st year of Wanli (1613), which was the work of the painter at the age of 37 in his early days. In the painting, the common narrow and long composition of the landscapes of the Wu School is adopted, and the light color lightly dyes the mountain, and the short strokes with rich ink color changes are drawn into bamboo groves and trees to create a beautiful landscape of Shixie Mountain. Mr. Jun Yu was inscribed on the painting, that is, Tang Xianke (a native of Wujin, Jiangsu Province) was rich in collection, and Wang Meng of the Yuan Dynasty’s “Gukou Spring Farming” was his collection, from which Zhang Hong might also get inspiration for painting.
