Sun Kehong (1533-1611 AD), also known as Ke Hong, was born in Huating, Jiangsu Province. The word “Yunzhi” means “Xueju”. He was born in the 12th year of Emperor Shizong Jiajing and died in the 39th year of Emperor Shenzong Wanli. He studied calligraphy and painting diligently all his life. He is talented and hardworking. He learned a lot from the ancients. He learned from Ma Yuan in landscape, from Mi Fu in Yunshan, from Xu Xi and Zhao Chang in flowers and birds, from Wen Tong in ink and bamboo, from Zheng Sixiao in orchids, and from Liang Kai in Buddhist and Taoist characters. In his later years, he lived in seclusion in Dongguo Thatched Cottage and concentrated on painting plum blossoms. Sun has the ancient roots, and then uses the brush to draw from life, so the image is forced to look like nature, and has the charm of pen and ink.
