- Description:
Cai Wenji (born in 177AD), named Yan, was the daughter of Cai Yong in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Xingpingzhong (194) was captured by the Huns, lived in the Huti for 12 years, and had two sons, who were later redeemed by Cao Cao. This volume has 18 paintings depicting Cai Wenji’s return to the Han Dynasty. Each painting is followed by the text of “Eighteen Beats of Hujia”. Although the first and the last pictures both have the seal of Qiu Ying (about 1494-1552), the characters in the whole volume are relatively simple and lack details. In addition, the background landscape reveals the influence of the Qing orthodox school, which may be a copy of the Qing Dynasty.
