- Description:
Gao Kegong (1248-1310), a Huihe from the Western Regions, is one of the representatives of non Han scholars who participated in the creation of Chinese calligraphy and painting. At the age of 42, he began to learn painting after working in the south. Zhao Mengfu may have given him guidance, but Li Yan, a scholar from the north, was his more important mentor. This painting shows Gao Kegong’s retro painting style. The main mountain combines the painting techniques of the Northern Song Dynasty mountains and the Jiangnan Dong Ju. The middle view is the misty landscape features of Mi Fu and his son. The overall green color is adopted to catch up with the Tang Dynasty landscape. The history of painting mostly refers to Gao Kegong’s learning from Mi’s Yunshan Mountain. In fact, he has added the rich characteristics of the Great Barrier Mountains and Rivers in the Northern Song Dynasty, which shows his open attitude to the model style.
