- Description:
Wang Yuan is a professional painter in Hangzhou. Although Zhao Mengfu once gave him guidance, his reputation came from the support of Emperor Wenzong of the Yuan Dynasty. He was once called upon to paint the murals of the Jiqing Temple in Dalongxiang, Nanjing, which is one of the large-scale cultural construction carried out by Wenzong. This painting is for the Chinese Pavilion. There are boats waiting to be launched on the shore, and there is a vast river view ahead. This configuration belongs to the old farewell map mode, but because the center is dominated by huge turquoise stones, and it also shows the meaning of “the world is peaceful”, it is very close to the common imperial image of landscape in the Northern Song Dynasty. This is also the type welcomed by the Mongolian Yuan court.
