In the Yuan Dynasty, there were common images of animals paying tribute from other regions, such as the tribute mastiff. There are two versions of “mastiff”. According to the definition of “Erya Shihu”, mastiff is a larger dog; The other is the lion. According to the Records of Famous Paintings of the Tang Dynasty and Xuanhe Paintings, Wei Wuyan (the year of birth and death to be examined) and Yan Liben (? – 673) of the Tang Dynasty both painted tribute lion themed paintings.
