Description:
This rectangular fragment of Liao samite, compound twill weft-faced on both sides, has a roundel pattern that most likely includes one phoenix (one wing and tail remain intact), which is very similar to an embroidered phoenix roundel from the Liao dynasty. The pattern is outlined in white, woven with wefts in a proportion of 1:3, purple for the ground, and yellow, white and red for the pattern. The diameter would be about 6.3 cm. The non-patterned area is woven with a proportion of 1:1, purple for the surface, green for the back. Weave structures: Inner warp: silk, untwisted, single, light brown, 17 ends/cm; Binding warp: silk, untwisted, single, light purple, 17 ends/cm; Weft: silk, untwisted, purple, yellow, white, red and green, 14 passes/cm. Weave structure: 1/2S compound twill weft-faced on both sides; Proportion of wefts on front to underneath: 1:3 for the pattern and 1:1 for the ground. 遼式斜紋緯錦殘片。其地部以紫色緯線作地，綠色緯線背襯；花部則在紫色緯線地上以黃、白、紅三色緯線顯花。織物殘留面積較小，圖案明顯是一小團窠飛鳥，最有可能是一隻鳳凰的一翅一尾，類似遼代的團鳳圖案。鳳身黃色，但以白色勾邊，推測其直徑在6.3cm左右。 組織結構： 經線：明經：絲，無撚，單根排列，淺紫色，17根/cm；夾經：絲，無撚，單根排列，淺褐色，17根/cm；緯線：絲，無撚，紫、黃、白、紅、綠色，14副 /cm；組織：地部爲1/2S向斜紋1:1遼式緯重組織，花部爲1/2S向斜紋1:3遼式緯重組織。
