Photograph (black and white) from an album; The Regent’s palanquin being carried down to the river by lay and monk officials. This was the start of the Regent’s visit to Samye Monastery. The large monk attendant known to the British Mission as ‘Simple Simon’ can be seen walking behind the palanquin and officials and onlookers line the route to the river
