Description:
Two painted pieces of paper pasted on hemp cloth. The front shows a seated Buddha, identified by the staff and bowl he holds as Baisyajyaguru, Buddha of Healing. He is accompanied by two Bodhisattvas, named in inscribed cartouches as Cintāmaṇicakra Avalokiteśvara and Vajragarbha (possibly mis-labelled, as Baisajyaguru is nearly always attended by the Bodhisattvas of the Sun and Moon, Suryaprabha and Candraprabha). Reverse shows rows of squares with painted flowers and traces of lattice, to which the painting was originally attached (designed to be viewed as a lattice window). Painted in ink and colours on paper.
