Textile. This panel from an originally larger textile is woven in the kesi (cut silk) tapestry technique. The warp (vertical) threads on a loom are covered with weft (horizontal) threads, and the changes in the colour of the weft create the design. Tiny vertical slits appear between adjacent colour areas. The peony motif signifies wealth and honour.
