Comments:Hizo Nihon bijutsu taikan Vol 3The artist, Aiseki, is generally said to have studied under Noro Kaiseki. However, as is clear from this work, with its use of the technique that employs touches of red ochre and indigo on a basic ink painting, Ike-no-Taiga’s influence was overwhelmingly greater. The composition and the treatment of rocks and trees are based with almost literal faithfulness on those of Taiga. The “Shaxi” of the title is the name of a river in China; the title as a whole probably denotes living a life of unworldly seclusion by a river, or possibly the man who does so.
