Comments:Hizo Nihon bijutsu taikan Vol 3Hine Taizan (1813-69), a painter of the Literati school in the late Edo period, first studied the style of the Tosa school, but subsequently switched, under the guidance of Nukina Kaioku, to the Southern School style. There are a dozen or more places bearing the name “Huang-shan” that occurs in the title, but none of them seems to be especially famous for its waterfall. However, it is significant that the Huang-shan in An-hui Province is celebrated for its pines, and Chinese ink made with soot produced by burning their wood is highly prized. Since the work gives prominence to pines on an overhanging cliff, “Huang-shan ink” may well have been used for this work.
