Description:
Album leaf. Mice and rats have the same Chinese name and are not always differentiated. The rat is one of the Chinese zodiac animals and the lunar year beginning on 7 February 2008 is the Year of the Rat, the first in the 12-year cycle. Here mice are painted nibbling a melon, a fruit which is lucky because it has many seeds, symbolising many children. Painted in ink and colours on silk. Seal.
