Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:The form of this vessel has a very long history. It is similar to a pottery jar excavated from a Warring States tomb, with a less flared foot and a button-shaped knob finial. A smaller jar of this shape, but with a cover with a pointed finial (total height 12.1 cm), dated to the Yuan period, is in the Longquan Qingci Museum. Another of similar form with incised decoration is in the Museum of Decorative Art (Kunstindustri Museet), Copenhagen. A slightly smaller plain glazed example (height 21.3 cm) is in the Degawa Bijitsukan, Japan. However, the crackled glaze on the British Museum example suggests an early Ming attribution.
