Description:
Porcelain jar with underglaze blue decoration. This globular jarlet has a raised neck and foot and a flat base. It is decorated with four stylized lotus blooms whose continuous stem encicles each flower. The ill-fitting glaze is covered with dark brown crazing. The jarlet is badly damaged and has pieces missing from the body and neck.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Such low-quality ‘min yao’ jars were commonly exported to countries throughout South-east Asia. They are rarely included in publications of national collections, but ajar of this type, collected in Indonesia, is in the Princessehof Museum and another is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Jars of this design were probably made over a period of many years. Another jar, identical in both shape and decoration, was recovered from the cargo of the San Diego, a Spanish warship, which sank on 14 December 1600 (see BM Franks.1579).
