Description:
Jacket; part of girl and woman’s festival costume As.1998.1.196 to 201. Base cloth lining of chemically dyed deep blue cotton, sleeves constructed in bands. Decoration on back and front yoke of shiny green damask-type weave. On collar and facing strip is twisting design in white, yellow and maroon, embroidered in silk with satin stitch over paper, and framed in strips of cotton cloth in red, white and yellow. On lower front is rectangle of solid silk embroidery in satin stitch in pattern of diamonds with triangles inside. Eighteen layers of cloth strips at bottom of jacket; eight on an under flap. Sleeves in four bands: a) dark blue twill cloth with nine narrow strips of coloured cloth either side of central embroidered panel with pattern of diamonds and half-circles; b) green cloth strip; c) strip similar to a) d) white cotton strip.

Comments:Text from Corrigan 2001:27: Xingren county, Xingyi prefecture. female festive jacket. Long sleeved jacket in which the front extends to the right side and ties under the arm. The sides are open and there are five added triangles at each side. There is an inner lining of chemically dyed blue manufactured cotton. The back and front yoke is shiny green damask-style weave. The sleeves is decorated in applied bands of embroidery and cloth. The lower back and front have applied embroidery pieces worked in satin stitch, edged round the yoke with bought ribbon. The collar and facing strip is embroidered with silk satin stitch over paper.
